Who we are

avtecture is an independent engineering and consulting practice for audiovisual media technology based in Hamburg. We plan vendor-neutrally, from needs analysis through tendering to handover. Our clients include international corporations and law firms, universities, foundations and public building owners. For room acoustics, AV network technology, user interface concepts and cyber security we have specialists in our own ranks. We have been ISO 27001 certified since May 2026.

What this position is really about

We are not looking for a drafting hand. We are looking for someone who can build a system in their head before it is on the drawing.

Planning here happens as a team, not by dictation. Whoever coordinated with the client brings the picture of the project, and it is never complete. So we expect you to ask: what the room is used for, what the system must deliver, why a solution may look the way it does. Only once you have understood the concept can you plan it cleanly. And if you see a better way, we want to hear it. We are not looking for someone who just works through a list.

You get a room programme, a system idea and a deadline. And the freedom to turn that into the planning. Which CAD system you master today is secondary. Whether you notice that a signal chain does not add up before the integrator notices it on site is decisive.

Your tasks

  • You independently turn rough input from planning meetings and sketches into complete, verifiable planning documents
  • Position and mounting plans, wall elevations, reflected ceiling plans and rack layouts in 2D and 3D
  • System schematics and signal flow diagrams including cable and component lists as well as first-fix cable plans
  • Development through the work stages up to construction documentation, revision states and as-built documentation
  • Plausibility checks: you notice yourself when signal path, power supply, network, load or mounting do not fit together, and you bring a proposed solution instead of a query
  • Coordination of interfaces with architecture, electrical and building services: routes, outlets, loads, access panels
  • Binding review of other trades' construction drawings and of the contractors' shop and installation drawings, with the care that a release demands
  • Further development of our CAD standards, symbol libraries and title blocks

What you bring

  • Several years of experience in planning technical systems (media technology, electrical engineering, building services or event technology). Experience from an engineering or consulting practice is an advantage
  • Systems thinking: you think in finished systems, not in symbols. You know what happens behind a connector and plan so that it can be installed, tested and maintained
  • Confident use of a CAD system for technical planning. Vectorworks Spotlight and ConnectCAD are ideal. Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Plancal Nova, DDS-CAD or MicroStation are an equally good starting point. We support the switch to our tools in a structured way
  • Training or degree with a planning focus: technical systems planner or CAD technician, technician, design engineer, event technology specialist, architecture or civil engineering. Or an equivalent path through practice
  • Independent, solution-oriented way of working: you do not need instructions for every line, you actively ask about the concept behind it and contribute your own proposals instead of waiting for orders
  • Spatial imagination and care down to the last revision
  • Solid foundations in electrical engineering and in working with standards and regulations
  • Very good German, spoken and written (at least C1); English for manufacturer documentation, ideally confident enough to produce planning documents in English as well

Nice to have

  • BIM and IFC experience, clash detection
  • Knowledge of AV over IP, Dante, control systems or conference technology
  • Surveying existing buildings, ideally with point clouds or 3D scans
  • Enjoyment of automation: component lists, reports and cable schedules straight from CAD instead of by hand

What we offer

  • The full range of projects, from demanding one-off projects to standardisation projects
  • Short decision paths, no rigid hierarchies. You organise your own tasks and help shape how we work
  • Flexible working hours and home office by arrangement. 30 days of holiday, full-time or part-time
  • Structured onboarding in Vectorworks Spotlight and ConnectCAD if you come from a different CAD world
  • Training, for example AVIXA CTS, BIM, Vectorworks
  • Modern hardware and openness to new technology are a given for us

Your application

Send us your CV and two or three examples of drawings you have produced.

Please also answer three short questions:

  1. Which CAD systems do you work with, and what are you really good at in them?
  2. Which requirement of this position do you have the least experience with?
  3. Your salary expectation and your preferred number of hours.

How it works

  1. Your application A CV and a few lines on what draws you to the position. We do not need a formal cover letter. What matters to us is understanding why you are the right person for the job.
  2. A personal reply Your application is read by us personally, not by a system. You will hear back either way, and we look forward to the conversation.
  3. Conversation About an hour, by video call or in Hamburg. We talk about projects and want to understand where your strengths lie.
  4. Getting to know each other, then an offer A day with the team or a small planning task, whichever suits you. Then an offer that matches what you can do.
